1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS

In 1973 the name "Carrera" was reintroduced to accentuate the high performance specifications of this model. The "RS" designated the car's purpose: Rennsport, or Racing Sport. The 1973 2.7-litre, 210 horsepower Carrera was another Porsche 'marketing underestimation'. Only 500 examples were originally scheduled for manufacture in order to qualify for Group 4 homologation rules. Instead of excess inventory, the first 500 examples were immediately sold out, plus an additional 1,100 were eventually sold to private customers.
