1956 Targa Florio - Winning Driver: Umberto Maglioli (Italy)

This scene depicts a Porsche 550A RS Spyder speeding through the Sicilian first light. The Epic Targa Florio Race, named for its creator Vincenzo Florio, was run 60 times between 1906 and 1977. For the 1956 event Umberto Maglioli drove a flawless race in the Porsche 550 RS to claim the first of eleven total victories for Porsche in the Targa Florio series. Maglioli took the lead in the race with the 1.5 liter Porsche after Eugenio Castellotti, driving a Ferrari 3.5 liter Monza experienced gearbox problems. Amazingly, he drove single-handedly for the required 10 laps for almost eight hours!

This was truly Porsche's greatest victory to that point!
