The 917 was a mid-engine race car fitted with a flat 12-cylinder engine and was first raced in 1969.
The design was developed through 1973 with 580 HP and was eventually modified with a turbocharger that could muster over 1,000-horse power!

John Horsman, the English engineer who ran the Wyer team's development and race preparation effort, rejected the factory's long-tailed body works and created the shorter wedge-shape form.
