LeMans 1970 Martini 917L: 2nd Place Overall
Drivers: Gerard Larousse (France) and Willi Kauhsen (Germany)

This car finished second overall to the red-and-white colored 917K Salzburg Porsche despite tire and ignition problems caused by the epic rainfall during the 24 hour event. Of the seven 917's entered, these were the only two to finish the race.

"The Hippie-Car" was a radical departure from the standard "Martini-White" paint schemes. The design of this car was the responsibility of then Porsche stylist director and studio chief, Anatole Lapine. The deep violet base color was covered in swirling floral whorls of light green edged in white. Reaction to the new paint scheme was mixed within the Porsche factory (Dr. Ferry Porsche hated this paint scheme).
